ROOTREE ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THEIR 2ND ANNUAL RT | FOUNDATION AWARD

Canadian Sustainable Packaging Leader Provides Growth Opportunity to Small Businesses in North
America with Award for Packaging Design, Printing, and More.

Burlington, Ontario, december 2, 2021: Rootree, Inc., Canada’s leader in sustainable digital flexible packaging, has announced the winners of their RT | Foundation Award Contest. The 2021 recipients are Northern Wildflowers Inc. from the Sudbury, Ontario area, and KALŪ from Montreal, Quebec. Both candidates showed exemplary efforts in sustainability.

Northern Wildflowers Inc. is a family-owned business that provides pollinator-friendly seeds which grow native plants in Northern climates. The business aims to increase habitat for pollinators and to support Canadian farmers and wild seed collectors. Northern Wildflowers Inc.’s sustainability efforts include donating a minimum of 1% of annual sales to causes supporting urban food security, outdoor classrooms, and re-greening. The business is working to eliminate plastic from its operations and packaging, and on becoming carbon negative. In 2022, Northern Wildflowers Inc. will buy carbon credits for travel and shipping, and will implement a five-year tree planting plan on its farm.

KALŪ is a company that provides premium, grain- and GMO-free dog food. The business aims to create products that sustain a healthy lifestyle for pets. KALŪ exemplifies sustainability through its sustainably and locally sourced ingredients that reduce the amount of goods movement required. The business purchases carbon credits to offset emissions from the transport of inventory to its warehouse, and delivers with zero-emission vehicles. KALŪ is also the first pet food company in Quebec to offer zero-waste options using reusable containers.

Rootree also recognizes the RT | Foundation Award contest’s honourable mentions: Stormy’s, Teas for Good, Saulice, and Pugs and Pigs. Rootree commends their efforts and looks forward to seeing their work in 2022.
