LAITERIE CHAGNON

« An eloquent example of an innovative manufacturing company »

Pierre Gabriel Côté, CEO Investissement Québec

Waterloo, Jamuary 21, 2019 – The Laiterie Chagnon received $1,008,000 today from the Gouvernement du Québec for a project in equipment acquisition and product marketing estimated at $1,135,000.

The Minister for Education and Member for Brome-Missisquoi, Ms. Isabelle Charest, made the announcement today on behalf of Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation and the minister responsible for the Lanaudière region.

This project will enable the business to develop a new market in specialty butter, moving from the artisan manufacturing method to industrial means, all while maintaining product integrity.  The specialty butter notably includes cultured butter, which is made by combining pasteurized cream, and cultured butter, made from fresh cream to which bacterial culture is added. These butter types, with a milk fat content rate of 84%, are unique when compared to other products offered to consumers. In addition, the fleur de sel cultured butter was finalist at the 2018 Food Innovation Award / Dairy Products. Organized by the Conseil de la transformation alimentaire du Québec (CTAQ), this contest awards the efforts put forth by companies who have developed and/or launched an innovative project during the past year.

The government assistance includes a $508,000 loan from the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation under the ESSOR programm and a $500,000 loan from Investissement Québec‘s funds.

The minister, Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education and Member for Brome-Missisquoi declared: « The Gouvernement du Québec is pleased to support the project in equipment acquisition and marketing development for the Laiterie Chagnon. The company, which favours local sourcing from regional farms, contributes to the synergy within the agri-food sector and proudly represents local dairy producers and processors. »

Mr. Pierre Gabriel Côté, CEO of Investissement Québec, added: « The Laiterie Chagnon is an eloquent example of an innovative manufacturing company, who perseveres toward a digital shift and in investing for delivering a superior product and expanding their markets. This new equipment will enable them to improve the quality of their products and packing, in addition to increasing their output. We are proud to support this innovative project and contribute to the region’s economic growth.”

From Laiterie Chagnon, their president, Nathan Kaiser, concluded: “I’m delighted that the Gouvernement du Québec believes in our project, which will support the regional economy and encourage the development of high-quality products for the Quebec market. The assistance extended from the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation, in addition to the loans from Investissement Québec, encourages the Laiterie Chagnon to continue innovating and developing dairy products, which meet consumer’s needs and contributes to supporting the dairy sector. »
